A Santee woman is celebrating after winning $100 million in the California State Quick Pick Lottery Thursday night. Charlotte Keys, 34, claimed her prize on Friday morning in La Jolla.
“I was so excited. I couldn’t believe it,” Keys said “It was like getting my first dog, complete shock.” Keys regularly buys five $1 Quick Picks each week. When she came to work Friday morning at a local 7-Eleven, she asked a clerk to verify the numbers for her. Keys was in shock and disbelief to discover she had won the $100 million jackpot. Of the 5 Quick Pick’s she bought, one had contained the winning numbers.
Charlotte Keys is dressed in a shirt bearing the words “Shopaholic”. “It’s the first thing I’ve bought since I’ve won this thing (jackpot),” Keys says. She has bigger plans for the money as well though. Opening a high-class laundry mat with a coffee shop in Beverly Hills has long been a dream for the California resident since she was a child. Next on her list would be a trip to Disneyland, somewhere she’s never been before. The lottery jackpot has been life changing for Charlotte Keys. She is thrilled she can finally pay all her bills.
While former lottery winners have lavishly wasted their money quickly, Keys plans to save and also believes the laundry mat will be a good investment. Keys will also turn away any family members hoping to obtain cash from her. Charlotte however has no plans to donate money to any charities or organizations.
Keys has worked loyally at a local 7-Eleven convenience store for ten years since she made the transition from North Carolina to California. Her husband Andrew Keys resolved a new location would suit them better, but Charlotte was only interested in becoming a celebrity. They met in a rodeo bar’s parking lot in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The couple has no children.
“I ain’t low class,” Keys says. Winning Quick Pick numbers 5, 45, 16, 11, 16 may change just that and become Charlotte Key’s ticket to a new life.
