Teen Pop Sensation Idol Dies

Britney Spears died on Sunday night when the hair dryer she was using fell into a sink full of water. She was 27.

Spears sudden death comes after years of controversial behavior. In 2003, at the MTV Music Awards, Spears found herself in trouble after kissing Madonna during their performance of “Like a Virgin.”

Along with the MTV Music Awards, her marriage to Kevin Federline shocked her fans.  Many questioned if her marriage would last, especially since her marriage to her hometown boyfriend, Alexander Allen had only lasted for 55 hours.

Spears and Federline divorced after three years and began a custody battle over their children Sean Preston (3) and Jayden (2). Spears began to display increasingly erratic parenting skills like driving with Sean Preston in her lap, rather than putting him in a baby seat.

Before her controversial issues, Spears was known as America’s Sweetheart and was seen as an innocent teen. She first rose to fame in the late 1980s in TVs “The New Mickey Mouse Club.” Spears starred alongside the likes of Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. Timberlake became Spears’ longtime boyfriend and she promised to save her virginity for him until the two could be married. “Our love is so real that when were together we could sit in silence,” said Britney at the time.

After “The New Mickey Mouse Club” was cancelled, Spears returned home to Kentwood, Louisiana. She was determined to return to show business. “Britney’s passion in dance and music was always something that she was really great at, because she never thought negative about her performances she always thought positive and was determined to have every performance greater than it really was,” said Lynne Spears, Britney’s mother.

In 1998, she dropped her first album, “Hit Me Baby One More Time.” This album was followed by “…Oops I did it Again” in 2000. Spears headlined her first feature film, “Crossroads,” in 2002. Although the movie didn’t receive good reviews, that same year, Forbes Magazine named Spears the world’s most powerful celebrity.

After her first album was released, Spears became an idol for many young children and pre-teens.

She was born on December 2, 1981. She is survived by her parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, her sister Jamie Lynne, her brother, Bryan, and her children, Sean Preston (3) and Jayden (2).

Plans for a public memorial have not been determined.
