Caroline Zhong

Under the shy sun of the first hours of the morning, she is there, with her legs crossed, the long hair along her neck and her perfect American accent. From this description, you couldn’t ever imagine her real nationality. In fact, if it hadn’t been for her surname, Zhong, she could practily seem American. Don’t you think that Caroline is a typical American name, especially due to the name of the state, North Carolina?

A Chinese family in an international environment. Two parallel world, even though they resemble a lot to each other.

This is Caroline world: her family means everything for her; her parents represent her role models! They have always been the number ones in school, the firsts to go to college in their family.

So, why she shouldn’t imitate them and follow their footprints?

She wants to find her own way to meet her goals. She wants to write her own personal story and not just follow another one, already started and preannounced. That’s why she would love to be a fifth grade teacher, as she would like to leave an impact and a sign on them, close to their heart, exactly a s the arrow beats in the centre of the target!

Growing up in the US, Caroline moved two years ago to China, due to her parents’ business work, removing her from the open and international world she was accustomed to. However, she didn’t give up and continued to follow the route to meet her plans: she took the AP, Advanced Placement, to focus on American universities where she would love to study. In fact, as she said, “ China is their world, America’s is mine.” As nothing can last forever, she will catch up any opportunity will appear to her straightaway, without losing it. That’s her motto, Carpe Diem, and that’s why she decided to come to Academic Connections, to get credits for her application in college.

As her parents, very hard-working and looking to achieve their own goals, she wants to be someone in her future and leave her clear footprint in order to change or improve other people’ lives. She’s very curious and always looking to find the answer to a “Why?” question! For instance, she would even be interested in studying Business or Economics to really deepen her knowledge along the immense ocean of stocks, shares and companies. Even though, it’s pretty sure she will encounter different types of tsunami along her way, or using the economic terminology, a recession, she will never give up and will continue to fight, as she must win against that enemy!

Life is ups and downs, special moments and bad ones, black and white, it’s like love without sufferance, but that’s why it’s so fascinating and amazing. Each specific moment, sad or marvelous that it is, represent a little piece of that puzzle that complete the complex mosaic that makes our life as it is: special, unbelievable, incredible! Life could be described as a business cycle: there are tough times during the period of a recession where we struggle to survive and we see everything black, or, probably, to be more precise, red, exactly as our bank account.  But, after it, there will be the light again showing a recovery and, hopefully, a sign, even if shy, of better times!

The sun warms us up and we realize that our journey along the coast of the business world has arrived to its end, the ocean seems calm and quiet, no more signs of the tempest and we hugs.

Her smile represents different feelings and sensations but one thing is sure: here, she feels at home and that’s the big difference, with her parents, which makes her how she is now!
