Princess Pop Star Dead at a Drop of a Hair Dryer

Britney Spears died Sunday night when the hair dryer she was using fell into a sink full of water. She was 27.

Spears’ death comes after years of controversial behavior. Once America’s Sweetheart, her image slowly deteriorated over the years. Many questioned her decision to marry Kevin Federline in 2004, along with the concurrent reality series, “Britney and Kevin: Chaotic.” Few were surprised when the two divorced in 2006. The two shared custody of their two sons Sean Preston (3) and Jayden (2).

Spears loved the limelight. Some people said she called the paparazzi and told them to come along with her when she went for gas. Spears denied this.

“People think I love all of this attention, but I don’t,” Spears said. “I want my privacy.” The paparazzi chased after her when she shaved her head at a local salon. Soon after, she checked herself into rehab. The latest parenting mishap occurred when son, Sean Preston, was spotted sitting on the pop princess’ lap while driving through Malibu.

Spears first rose to fame in the late 1980s in TVs “The New Mickey Mouse Club.” She starred alongside the likes of Nsync’s Justin Timberlake and J.C. Chasez and Christina Aguilera. Timberlake became the stars longtime boyfriend and Spears even promised to save her virginity for him until the two could be married in the future. “I’m a Christian girl and my mother taught me better,” Spears said. Many laughed.

After “The New Mickey Mouse Club” was cancelled, Spears returned home to Louisiana. She was soon itching to return to show business. In 1998, she dropped her first album, “…Baby One More Time,” and hit songs became #1 for weeks. Spears then made a music video.

Spears’ video featured multiple backup dancers wearing a Catholic Schoolgirl Uniform, making the video somewhat controversial. She released her second album, “Oops!...I Did it Again,” in 2000. This was a bigger hit than “…Baby One More Time.” Spears also headlined her first feature film, “Crossroads,” in 2002.

That same year, Forbes Magazine named Spears the world’s most powerful celebrity. “I feel very honored,” Spears said. “It’s like I’m on top of the world.”

In 2003, at the MTV Video Music Awards, Spears found herself in trouble once again after kissing Madonna during their performance of “Like a Virgin.” It was the highlight of the VMA’s where everyone constantly talked about days after the performance was over. “I don’t really approve of this,” said Lynne, Spears’ mother. “But it is show business and they go all out.”

Spears was born on December 2, 1981. She is survived by her parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, her sister Jamie Lynn, her brother Bryan and her children, Sean Preston (3) and Jayden (2).

Plans for a public memorial have not been determined.
