Prisciliana Pineda

I have been watching her. Her name is Prisciliana Pineda. She is a short girl standing at about five feet with a caramel colored complexion and dark curly hair neatly pulled back into a tight ponytail.

At lunch she walks down the cafeteria isle looking for a table, her pace is slow, but not because she is scared to spill the drink that rests in the corner of her tray, but because she is hesitant as to where and with whom to sit.  One day she sits with one group of girls and next day with another.

In fairy tales there is always that girl who likes pink fuzzy things and has had the same tight circle of friends. The only difference is that we live in reality: this is not a fairy tale.

Is it possible that there being such a multitude of people on the face of this planet there are still people like Pineda that have yet to find that tight group of friends in which she feels identified???

Instead of dressing in a pink frilly dress Pineda wears dark colored jeans, a pair of sneakers, and a Tomlinson Chargers jersey. Proof that we are NOT living in a fairy tale.

It is ironic that you see this girl and the last thing you can do is picture her in a dress, yet you hear her voice and you stand amazed by the girly tone that comes out of her mouth.  She took her very first breath of air on August 7, 1994. Born into a family of five, in which she is the middle child and the only girl among her siblings makes it very easy for her to feel out of place and with a tremendous need of having someone close to confide in.

Of course every thing in this world has its ups and downs. In this case the good part is that her relationship with her brother is pretty good. “It’s always good to be able to ask him things and get his point of view from a guys perspective,” said Pineda  “It is so hard to find a good friend that sticks around and will be there for you. There are a lot of girls who one minute are there and the next are some where else talking smack about you behind your back. I’m going to be honest, I’m a pretty chill girl.”

It’s difficult. It’s life, and as hard as it is, it’s harder when you have the wrong group of so called “friends”.  Why struggle when it is unnecessary?

Perhaps people should not worry about having that tight group of friends. Perhaps it is not all about that.  Perhaps Pineda has already discovered that some times it is not about fitting in but of being unique and being able to project your individuality in different ways and not just one synchronized way.  Maybe we will not come to see the day that Pineda wears that pink frilly dress
